Schumacher Tests Ferrari F2007

Scuderia Ferrari is an Italian sports car manufacturer based in Maranello and Modena, Italy. It was founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929. Scuderia Ferrari is the name for the division of the Ferrari automobile company concerned with racing. It was founded in 1929 competed in F1 in 1948 so it is statistically the oldest and the most successful team that was included in the F1 championship today.

Today the team’s current drivers are Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen after the retirement of Michael Schumacher.

Michael Schumacher is a former Formula 1 driver, and seven-time world champion. He retired at the end of the 2006 season after winning the World Championship seven times. He holds many records in Formula 1, including most drivers' championships, race victories, fastest laps, pole positions, points scored and most races won in a single season. After his retirement Formula One figures such as Niki Lauda and David Coulthard hailed Schumacher as the greatest all-round racing driver in the history of Formula One.

But in his latest news, Schumacher will drive a Ferrari F2007 used this year by Kimi Raikkonen, the newly crowned world champion, at a two-day test in Barcelona. Although Ferrari has said that the decision to give Schumacher an opportunity behind the wheel is not indicative of plans to revive his racing career. It was confirmed by Sabine Kehm, Schumacher’s assistant “The test really does not indicate anything, especially not his desire to come back to racing.” Kehm said.

The announcement of the test in Spain follows Schumacher’s appearance at Valencia.

Facelift for the Old Magnum

For the 2008 model year, the Magnum received a facelift. It received extensive exterior and interior restyling. The 2008 Magnum is a 4-door, 5-passenger wagon, available in 6 trims, ranging from the Base to the SRT8. It is a full-size American station wagon with spacious cargo capacity.

“The Base is equipped with a standard 2.7 liter, V6, 190-horsepower engine that achieves 18-mpg in the city and 26-mpg on the highway. A 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard. The SRT8 is equipped with a standard 6.1-liter, V8, 425-horsepower engine that achieves 13-mpg in the city and 18-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.”

A redesigned hood, front fascia and new grille highlight the extensive changes on the new 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8. The grille has been lowered and stretched horizontally to remove its truck resemblance. The headlamp units are a nice integrated wedge shape. It is available in exterior colors such as Bright Silver Metallic, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat, Steel Blue Metallic Clear Coat and TorRed.

On the inside, it maintains its race-inspired environment. It also continues to feature power-adjustable, bolstered sport seats. It has an improved grip-enhancing carbon-fiber leather-trim steering wheel.  Its sport seats are very much effective in keeping backsides in place during aggressive cornering,

Benchmark braking is the main asset of SRT performance and design.

GM downsizing engines, launches two new compact turbos

GM has taken heed of people's wishing for a smaller, extra reasonably priced engine along with newly-developed two high performance engines for its worldwide markets. The latest engines loaded with a fresh 1.4-liter petrol brand as well as a 1.6-liter Compressed Natural Gas or CNG set, and soon to be rolled out in GM's creation automobiles over the upcoming 12 months.

http://cache.jalopnik.com/cars/assets/resources/2007/09/gm_general_motors_logo.jpg

The two engines are compacted four-cylinder items that operate turbochargers to build up for their need of displacement. The petrol unit distributes an 8% fuel consumption reduction matched to a logically aspirated tank engine with similar or the same productivity of 120hp headed for 140hp.

The 1.6 liter CNG component on the other hand is extra powerful compare to its smaller petrol unit, mixing out a projected 150hp plus 210 Nm of performance. Furthermore, it cuts CO2 discharges more or less 25% once evaluated to the same way of great petrol engine unit. The CNG or Compressed Natural Gas will probably be used first in the model of Opel Zafira 2009 mini van even though there is no rumor yet regarding on other finished product, counting the U.S. production, will be using both engines.

Merging small engines set through turbochargers to lessen emission but retaining the performance has been an easy and a successful tactic for all manufacturers, particularly in light of stronger emissions laws. Turbo charger producer known as BorgWarner, actually convinced of improved turbocharger demand that the corporation is rounding up production and even constructing new sites in order to control demand in years to come.

2009 Honda Pilot crossover is chunkier, absolutely breathtaking

Held at the Palm Springs, California, Honda's remodeled and improved their midsize, 2009 Honda Pilot to appear extra thickset and chubby, compare to a truck, and less-similar a warmed-over van, and has outsized it a bit to response criticisms about where to set the two baby carriages, all those foodstuff plus additional sports equipment.

http://www.thetorquereport.com/09_pilot_prototype_rendering.jpg

Overall, just as consumer's self-control over fuel costs and battle for smaller, slighter, and more carlike appearance SUVs.

The elevated hood line that contains the big grille composes a hard visibility where the trail goes when driving an off-pavement railway.

At the rear side, double exhaust pipes are a very good finish. Excluding a modesty panel connecting them would obscure the rear suspension and clear out the image.

The Honda Pilot's calculation for the overall framework appearance seems irregular. Wheels and tires are broader than on the 2008 model, but the tall body creates the look too petite.

In the end, anyone will understand this design. The upright, squared-off form as a look of integrity. I can say it looks like it has more space, adaptable, for the whole family automobile.

According to theautochannel.com "To further enhance safety, the Pilot will feature the Honda-exclusive Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE®) body structure and the most extensive use of high-strength steel in any Honda product to date. The ACE body structure enhances frontal collision compatibility with vehicles of different sizes and bumper heights. A pedestrian injury mitigation design in the front of the vehicle is designed to help absorb energy in the event of a collision."

Thanks to Honda. Their productions are created by means of domestic and globally-sourced parts anyone would love to have.

America's Greenest Car

All these time, we believed that the Toyota Prius was the greenest car ever made in the entire auto planet.  Even I was tempted to follow Jessica Alba's footsteps in buying that fuel-efficient, eco-friendly car from the famous Japanese automaker.

But just recently, a list, called the 2008 Green Book Online, is set to discount that claim.  Based from data gathered by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE), the Honda Civic GX outmaneuvered the well-acclaimed Toyota Prius in its list of 12 greenest cars.

According to honda.com, this sedan was especially designed for the environment with an Advanced Technology Partial-Zero-Emission, compressed natural gas fuel and 113-horsepower, 1.8-liter, 16-Valve, SOHC i-VTEC four-cylinder engine.  It also comes equipped with an aerodynamic exterior and a two-tier instrument panel.  In addition, it is capable of MP3/Windows media Audio playback.

Records showed that the Honda Civic GX only sells more or less 1,000 units annually but sales was no big deal for non-profit ACEE that scrutinized all aspects of the vehicles' emissions and fuel economy beginning from their manufacturing process before they came up  with the list of 12 cleanest as well as meanest cars sold in America.

Just in case you're interested to know the details, here is a complete list of ACEEE's 12 greenest cars. Following the Honda Civic GX was, of course, the Toyota Prius.  Third in rank was the Honda Civic Hybrid while the Smart ForTwo landed on the fourth spot.  Following closely were the Toyota Yaris, the Nissan Altima Hybrid, the Toyota Corolla, the Mini Cooper also known as the Clubman and the Ford Focus. Also included in the list were the Toyota Camry Hybrid, the Honda Civic and finally, the Honda Fit.

Now we know.

Is He Worthy To Be Called Jack-Of-All-Cars?

Next generation drivers want more…errr…I mean - all. They want to try it all. If there’s jack-of-all-trades, the next generation of drivers wants to be crowned jack-of-all-cars. But will they be worthy of the title?

Graham Rahal is one of the budding drivers who wanted to snatch such title. IndyStar writes:

Rahal, the 19-year-old son of three-time CART champion Bobby Rahal, the 1986 Indianapolis 500 winner, isn't comfortable being known as just an open-wheel driver. Broadly, he is a race car driver, and that's how he wants history to eventually judge him.

"Like my dad or A.J. Foyt or Mario Andretti, some of the Unsers or Dan Gurney," he said. "Those guys drove everything there was, everything they could. "I always say the difference between a good driver and a great driver is that a great driver can drive anything."

In addition to finishing fifth as a rookie in the Champ Car series, his 2007 season included a test in a powerful Saleen S7 supercar in Barcelona, Spain; a demonstration in a Formula One machine in Las Vegas; and races in both of the top U.S. sports car series, American Le Mans and Grand Am. When time permits, he said he would love to try a NASCAR race.

"Heck, even doing the (Indy) 500. It only adds credibility to your name," Rahal said. "I'd love to be the one guy who can win Indy, Le Mans, Sebring, Daytona, anything."

"I think it really did show the true talent of a driver," Bobby said of Gurney's versatility. "Mario (Andretti) did the same kind of things. He drove whatever he could."

I think from now on, we’ll gonna see familiar faces on the race tracks.

Infiniti EX35 Is Top Safety Pick

If you are looking for a safe vehicle to buy, I'm sure that you would first think about buying a Volvo.  The Swedish automaker has created a name for itself in the global auto market as the manufacturer of very safe vehicles.   But the demand for more safe vehicles means that the Scandinavian legend is no longer the only automaker offering safe vehicles.

Take for example the Infiniti EX35.  The said vehicle recently received the coveted Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.  This award is the highest rating that the IIHS gives away.  In order to have that one rating under a vehicle's belt, it should first pass front, rear, and side crash tests conducted by the Institute.  Apart from that, it should also be equipped with an electronic stability control which has been proven to have reduced the risk of rollover accidents.

Adrian Lund, the chairman of the Institute, had this to say according to The Auto Channel:  "Criteria to win are tough because the award is intended to drive continued safety improvements such as top crash test ratings and rapid addition of electronic stability control, which is standard equipment on the EX35.  Recognizing vehicles at the head of the class for safety helps consumers distinguish the best overall choices without having to sort through multiple test results."

Lund also pointed out that the EX35 is one vehicle which has set a benchmark for its class.  "The EX35 is a leader in its class for state-of-the-art safety.  You don't know what kind of crash you're going to be in. That's why it's important to choose a vehicle that will protect you in all kinds of crashes. The Top Safety Pick designation is intended to help people find the safest choices," he shared.

Cars That Drive Themselves

What on earth is this vehicle? I have to own one of these radically-insane stuff. Oh sorry I wasn't listening. Anyway, according to my source, "The Boss", the Chevy Tahoe, is making explosive noise and scenes in the automotive industry today as GM confirmed that cars that drive themselves are expected to hit dealerships within 10 years and these units are also exhibited at the Consumer Electronics Show. The main feature of the vehicle is its splendid and dependable safety technology courtesy of Continental.

"We are excited to be using our electronics expertise to help our automotive customers develop safety technologies that achieve our vision of zero vehicle crashes and injuries in the future," says Bill Kozyra, the president and CEO of Continental North America and Executive Board Member.

Last December, Carnegie Mellon University's Tartan Racing Team earned the 2007 Defense Advance Research Project Agency (DARPA) Urban Challenge and took home a spanking $2 million first place prize in the independent vehicle contest which was sponsored by Continental Automotive Systems.

"This was an historic day in the push to make vehicles safer and smarter," said Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, Continental's Chief Technology Officer. "The Continental environmental sensors performed flawlessly and helped Tartan Racing's driverless vehicle 'Boss' see the path to victory, moving intelligent vehicle technology forward."

"At Continental we believe the Urban Challenge was not 'pie in the sky' thinking on display. Instead, we view the competition as an incubator for the driving experience of the future. What DARPA seeks to demonstrate we at Continental embrace as our fundamental business culture as we strive to offer our customers... and 'consumers who are their customers'... the very best in automotive innovation, performance and reliability," added Dr. Neumann.
